2008 NBA Championship & NBA Playoffs

Regular Season is on and the NBA Playoffs Teams are waiting to be chosen. The 2008 NBA Playoffs started on Saturday, April 19, 2008 and will run through mid-to-late June with the 2008 NBA Finals. I’m not sure what’s better: That some teams will start trying again, or we won’t be subject to the best teams anymore. Thank goodness. One thing’s for certain, though. Making odds and handicapping the playoffs are different than doing it during the regular season.

2008 NBA Playoffs & NBA Championship

The NBA playoffs is a series of games after the regular season matches for the championship title. Following the NBA regular season, eight teams in each conference qualify for the playoffs and are seeded one to eight.

Consisting of 16 teams in 2 conferences, the playoffs involve nearly two months of play. The playoffs are conducted in four rounds of best-of-seven series. The three division winners in each conference, along with the five best non-division winners in each conference, qualify for the playoffs. The division winners and top second-place team are seeded first through fourth based on record, with the remaining teams seeded fifth through eighth on record.

This season was notable for being one of the most competitive Western Conference playoff races in NBA history. Up until April 4, 2008, not a single Western Conference team had secured a playoff spot, and the 8th seeded team was a mere 6.5 games behind the 1st seed. Additionally, the quality of the teams ensured that Golden State finished with the highest winning percentage of any non-playoff team in NBA history since the switch to the 8-team playoff format, beating out the 2000-2001 Houston Rockets. The all-time record is held by the 1971-1972 Phoenix Suns (49-33), which was during the 4-team playoff era.

2008 All-Star Game

The 2008 NBA All-Star Game will be played at the New Orleans Arena, the home of the New Orleans Hornets, on February 17, 2008 with the East winning 134-128 and Cleveland's LeBron James being named the MVP. Every single All-Star Game participant would end up in the NBA playoffs, with the exception of Brandon Roy of the Portland Trail Blazers and Dwyane Wade of the Miami Heat.

Announced on February 17, 2008 it will be the 58th annual All-Star Game.
