This coming August 8, 2011 will start the annual 93rd PGA Championship, a tournament conducted by the PGA of America and part of the PGA Tour; also one of the Major Championship in Men Professional Golf Category. The tournament is usually called U.S. PGA Championship when is held outside of the United States, also is named "the Glory Last Shot" because is the last of the majors to be held at the end of every year season.
Many great players have won this prestigious tournament, and some have taken the trophy at least twice on their career; champions like Tiger Woods, Vijay Singh, Nick Price and the legendary Jack Nicklaus are just a few of a big list of champions that have claimed the PGA Championship victory. Last year, the German Martin Kaymer conquered the PGA championship and became eligible to be a full PGA Tour member; however he declined to concentrate in the European tour 2011. He is the first German player to win this tournament. The defending champion is ready to take all challenges on the improved world-class field that AAC offers for the 93rd PGA Championship this coming August.
Like in the other majors, there are some rules to qualify and get invited to this event. The PGA Championship allpy rules that were established to bring high profile players in a time when the sport was seem like some kind of private game just for the wealthy amateurs and not really professional players. These rules are more focused in major Championship winners, so even an amateur can get in, but must win at least one major Championship to be considered for the entry. Also, this tournament has a large reserve of slots (20 of 156) only for club professionals determined by top finishers in the Club Pro Championship; a game for club professionals and teachers members of the PGA of America that is held in June.
Another important detail is that the PGA Championship doesn't grant entry to the top 50 players in the official ranking, but invites everyone at the top 100 who aren't qualified. This is the only major that does it on this particular way.
This is the list of qualifying rules taken from the qualification criteria used in 2010 as reference:
The tournament will revive the experience at the historic Atlantic Athletic Club at John Creek in Fulton Georgia. The Club provided by John Creek community and founded in 1898 served as the tournament hosting place in 1981 and in 2001; ten years later, the club will be host once more the PGA Championship, and probably will do it again in ten years. During the past year, the city of John's Creek has been working with the club and the PGA to bring the best service, planning logistics and the main operations for a world sports event of this magnitude. This year, the field got some new modifications that may be a challenge for new and veteran players.
A curious note to finish, this will be the second time a major PGA championship will allow the spectators the use of mobile devices in selected areas of the golf course. The first time this policy got introduced was on last May during the Senior PGA Championship at Valhalla Club. The rules for using of the mobile in the game site must remain in silent or vibrate mode. The spectators may receive or make calls in areas designated around the course, mostly near concession stands. Checking data or send digital messages will be allowed in the golf course. Cell cameras only will be permitted during practice and no video recording is allowed. Improper use of the mobile during the golf course by spectators will imply the surrendering of the mobile device. They only can be recovered in designated areas after the departure of the golf course.
