Sources of Charlotte, North Carolina, report that the Cincinnati Bengals receiver, Chris Henry is dead. A day after he suffered serious injuries when he fell from the cab of a truck, Henry died in hospital on Thursday morning at 6:36, at age 26. According to authorities, Henry had succumbed to his life threatening injuries after he fell from a truck that was being driven by his girlfriend, Loleini Tonga. Henry had an argument with his fiancée, so she went in the truck. In an effort to reach to it, Henry managed to climb on the back part, but ended falling and suffering heavy injuries to his neck and head.
Reports say that the chances of his survival were low as he remained lying on the road for more than half an hour after being injured.
North Carolina Police said Tonga was "helping with investigators" and no charges have been filed against her. Authorities also haven't officially announced the cause of death. Mecklenburg County medical examiner investigator Carol Cormier said they were expecting to receive the body later on Thursday. Henry and Tonga were planning to wed in March and had 3 children together.
Chris Henry's unfortunate and untimely death has shocked millions of people across the US and the world. This is sad news for the player's family, fans, teammates and to the NFL as a whole.
Henry was away from the Bengals after breaking his left forearm during a win over Baltimore Ravens on Nov. 8. He had a surgery after this game and was placed on season-ending injured reserve. The Bengals (9-4) are in the half of their best season since winning 11 games in 2005, and are leading the AFC North. They will visit the San Diego Chargers on Sunday and will wear a helmet decal with the No. 15 to remember Henry, who spent five seasons with them.
RIP Chris Henry. Our condolences go to Chris Henry's family and friends.
